The Dance of Cosmos
Textile, Steel, Augmented reality & Performace
This sculpture is based on one of the hypothesis for the geometry of Universe; that it’s hyperbolic in nature, ever expanding and is in constant motion. A heavenly cosmic body, growing and throbbing, dancing through the void space. Imagining the universe an entity, which creates all of the elements and life-giving forces within, dancing in its own rhythm, taking its own space and expanding in dimensions humans can’t see but can only imagine. I wondered how would that geometry look like when dancing.
It’s also reference to Einstein’s Space-Time Theory where to understand effects of gravitional effects of a celestial body better, imagine space is as fabric, and when a heavy ball is placed on it, the fabric curves.
My cultural mythological reference: I adapted from Indian astrology & mythology, the way celestial bodies are represented as entities, and referenced universe as an entity. This is not implying that the universe is feminine alone, however, talking about the divine feminine aspects imbued in it. In Hindu culture, both masculine and feminine energies exists in everything and they have different aspects. Devine feminine is about creation and expansion..

Installation Shot during RCA Final exhibition.
For constructing the fabric patterns, I combined origami and Fashion pattern making skills to create the structure. It was a new challenge as earlier this shape in science & mathematics has only been made in thin paper strips or crochet. With fashion pattern making, I can create the flare, but it was combining it with origami patterns, that I could start creating more extended flares that give it the Hyperbolic shapes. There are large number possibilities to this shape as the geometry can be shaped in multiple ways. In future, there is a possibility of creating from different ones, giving it a dif- ferent perspective. After this sculpture, I am going to be exploring textile based installations more, as it’s an easy access to materials and machines and i know the suject enough to mould the sculptures according to will; till I can establish my work practice more
Augmented Reality part of the Installation during the show, where people interacted with the AR, following it’s path and watched how the hyperbolic structure danced around in the space, following it’s own rhythm.
